'Jane The Virgin' Was The Job She Was Waiting For
While some celebrities find success relatively young, others aren't as fortunate. There are A-List Celebrities Who Made Their Big Break After 30, success came much later in their careers. According to Gina Rodrigues, she was a struggling actress until the age of 29, that's when she landed the titular role on Jane the Virgin. It was her dream job, the one she's prayed and waited for.
According to Backstage, Gina revealed, "Jane The Virgin is the job I was praying for, waiting for. I was like, ‘This is brilliant.’ My household is very similar. I also grew up in so many different cultures and ethnicities, it was difficult for me to encompass all of my upbringing into a story in general."
Gina brought Jane to life in a way that only she could. Perhaps finding similarities between the character she played on the show and her real-life was an added advantage.
"I would say as an actor it’s very hard to find a story like yours unless you write it yourself, which will be done, but in the meantime, I read this script and thought, OK, here we are giving so much more."
She Produced And Stars In Diary Of A Future President
It isn't uncommon for actors to pivot to either directing or producing, some actors have done outstanding work behind the scenes. From George Clooney to Drew Barrymore, these stars aren't afraid to venture into movie production. Gina Rodriguez starred in and produced Diary of a Future President through her production company I Can and I Will.
Deadline reports, "The native Chicagoan and NYU Tisch School alum is a driving force for inclusion and the empowerment of women in all ways, particularly in the entertainment industry."
Gina has been vocal about the lack of inclusion of women and Latino actors in Hollywood and that was her motivation to launch her production company. Her fight for inclusion has landed her in hot water before, she was accused of making anti-Black comments.
"This passion led her to create her production company, I Can and I Will Productions, with a mission directly reflecting her commitment to create art and tell stories from those who are traditionally unseen and unheard. The company has finished its second season of Diary of a Future President where Rodriguez directed, produced, and performed as the future president."
